Jeff and Pat, originally from Wisconsin, are now retired. We have four children (all married) and nine grandchildren.
We moved to Colorado in 1992 and for the first 20 years, we lived in the snow/ski country of Summit County. We moved to Durango in 2012 to be closer to our daughter and her two children. We love Colorado’s sun and mountains. Pat also enjoys the much longer growing season in Durango.
We completed our new home in June, 2015. Building an energy efficient house was one of our top priorities. Among other things:
- The sun provides much of our heat during the winter (as our house incorporates a passive solar design).
- Our house meets the stringent Passivhaus air sealing standard – meaning there are no drafts.
- Our house is Net Zero Energy – meaning that over the course of a year, all of our electricity needs are met by our generation of clean energy from our PV solar panels.
- Our appliances are Energy Star rated, our water fixtures are WaterSense certified, and our light fixtures are LED.
Our house sits on 10 wooded acres that is only two miles from the heart of downtown (Main & 9th Street). On the south is a 300-acre City “mountain” park; on the west is City-owned open space that abuts state and federal lands (including the “Colorado Trail”) and on the north is another large lot. “Civilization” (i.e., the town) is to the east.
Our B&B is licensed by the City of Durango (Permit No. 17-002).
